Meet a Redwooder: Carrier Ops

Redwood is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds that share a common goal - to deliver our customer's business. Join us as we sit down with Andrew, a Carrier Operations Rep and chat about his experience working at Redwood.

Redwood Logistics Chicago

Andrew has been with Redwood since 2013. In his role as Carrier Operations Rep, Andrew identifies and dispatches trucks, manages daily tracking and works with customers and carriers to make sure everything runs smoothly. Outside of Redwood, Andrew enjoys going to the movies, cooking with his girlfriend, reading several books a month, and traveling to his home state of Wisconsin for Packer games.

How did you first learn about Redwood?

I learned about Redwood from my Dad. The company he works with does some business with Redwood. He visited the office here in Chicago and thought the atmosphere and type of work we do here would fit me really well. I ended up applying and the rest is history.

What ultimately led you to accept your position here?

I wanted to move away from the financial service field I was working in previously. Didn’t want to wear a suit every day to work. I also have friends who work in logistics and they always talked about how quickly their days flew by and how each day was a new challenge. This is definitely still true today.

What do you like most about your job?

I really enjoy the people I work with every day. It’s also cool to know I helped move products that I’ll then see in the grocery store. Just gives me a good sense of ownership over what we do here on a day-to-day basis.

How has Redwood helped you in your career development?

I’m generally a pretty quiet guy. But working here has really pushed me out of my comfort zone in a lot of ways. I feel like I’m able to handle difficult situations better than in years past before I worked here, both at work and at home.

What advice do you have for prospective Redwood candidates?

on’t be afraid to put yourself out there. There’s a lot to learn in this industry. Maybe the 1st position you’re in isn’t a fit for you. But that’s what’s great about Redwood. I started out in sales and it wasn’t for me. Just be open to trying new things and you’ll find something great here.

What are 3 words to describe Redwood?

Fun, fast, and forward-thinking.

How would you describe the culture at Redwood?

It almost feels like a tech company out West. Relaxed dress code but challenging and rewarding work.
